πΏ What Is Nori?
Nori is a thin, dried sheet of edible seaweed that’s most commonly known for wrapping sushi rolls. Dark green to black in color, it adds a unique savory flavor and a satisfying texture to a variety of dishes. Nori is made from red algae, then carefully dried and pressed into paper-like sheets.
But nori isnβt just for sushi! Itβs also great as a crispy snack, a garnish for rice and noodle bowls, or even crumbled on top of salads for an extra umami kick.
Rich in iodine, vitamins, and minerals, nori is a healthy and flavorful way to bring a taste of the ocean to your kitchen.


π£ How to Make Sushi Rolls with Nori (Easy Recipe)
π Ingredients:
- 1 cup sushi rice
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Nori sheets
- Fillings: salmon, avocado, cucumber, crab sticks, cream cheese, etc.
- Soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger (optional, for serving)
π Step 1: Make the Sushi Rice
- Rinse the sushi rice several times until the water runs clear.
- Cook it with water (use a rice cooker or stovetop).
- Once done, mix in rice vinegar, sugar, and salt while the rice is still warm.
- Let it cool down to room temp (donβt use hot rice or itβll ruin the nori).
π Step 2: Prepare the Rolling Station
- Place a bamboo sushi mat (or clean towel) on a flat surface.
- Lay a sheet of nori shiny side down on the mat.
- Wet your fingers (important!) and gently press a thin layer of rice over the nori, leaving about 1 inch (2 cm) empty at the top.
π₯ Step 3: Add Your Fillings
- Place your fillings in a line across the rice, near the bottom edge β donβt overfill!
- Example: salmon + avocado, or crab + cucumber + cream cheese.
π Step 4: Roll It Up
- Lift the mat and roll the sushi over the filling, pressing gently but firmly.
- Keep rolling until you reach the end of the nori.
- Use a little water to seal the edge.
πͺ Step 5: Slice & Serve
- Use a sharp, wet knife to cut the roll into 6β8 even pieces.
- Clean the knife between cuts to keep it neat.

- Soy sauce for dipping
- Wasabi if you like spice
- Pickled ginger on the side
πΆ 1. Unagi Sauce (Sweet Black Sauce)
Tastes like: Sweet, thick, umami-rich
Perfect for: Drizzling on top of sushi rolls
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup mirin (or 1/4 cup sugar + 1/4 cup water)
- 1/4 cup sugar
How to make it:
- Combine all in a small saucepan.
- Simmer over low heat for 10β15 minutes until it thickens.
- Cool before using. It gets thicker as it cools!
π― 2. Spicy Mayo
Tastes like: Creamy, spicy
Perfect for: Spicy tuna rolls, dipping, or drizzling
Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp mayo (Japanese mayo if possible)
- 1 tbsp sriracha (add more if you like it hotter)
- Optional: a dash of sesame oil or lemon juice
Mix & done!

Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
